As you do when you have too much time on your hands, you start dreaming about a nice ‚Schlepper‘. After much deliberation, I decided to ask Bodo Ulbricht to make me an Bellanca XXL kit. A few months after placing the order, the friendly postman delivered a big heavy box. Fast forward some months, and the Bellanca was maidened. As expected, she flies like a trainer, no bad vices at all. Given my age (any excuse will do) I had decided to install an electric starter, in order to be able to ‚quickly‘ get ready for the next flight. My engine is a new DLE-111 V3, with a heftier crankshaft.

Although the engine is easy to start, there were some minor issues with the starter contraption. Some of it due to the fact that the ‚one size fits all parts‘ in theory fit, but in practice required some ‚adjustments‘. Other issues were the less then careful assembly of some parts at the factory. In general I am not worried by stuff like this. If I buy something I always consider things as raw material, to be improved/adjusted/mangled as needed to suit my purpose. That means, if I don’t like a construction, I change it.

Christopher loaned me his Winch, since the weight of it pushed the weight of his Wilga just over the 25 kg limit. (who’s complaining). So that allows me to land without dropping the line. So al this extra weight had already been guestimated early in the building process. Therefore I had also decided to put 2 Savox servo’s in my elevators. In the end, CG was spot on.
